9-year-old Chicago resident Ulysses Campos was shot and killed while at his grandmother’s birthday celebration in the 2800 block of Elder Lane, Franklin Park, Illinois. On Saturday, July 8, 2023, at about 10:15 p.m., the incident took place. When four to six shots were fired from inside a moving vehicle toward the group of kids as they were playing with the other kids at the party, he was playing with them. Ulysses Campos was hit by the hail of bullets and sent to the Loyola Hospital in Maywood to be treated for a gunshot wound to the chest. He passed away the same night from the wound around 11 o’clock. The only person hit by the gunfire was Campos.

The Franklin Park Police Department and the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are both looking into the killing of Ulysses Campos on the evening of Saturday, July 8, 2023. The vehicle from which the shots were fired has reportedly been located by the investigating agencies. It was situated in Leyden Township, which was unincorporated. According to CBS, the Franklin Park Police Department has also located and detained a person of interest in the case along with the vehicle. The person’s identity has not yet been made public. There is currently no known additional information on the incident, including the reason behind the fatal gunshot.
