Wayne Brooks Jr. and Augusto Acabou worked at East Ward Firehouses where the officers draped mourning bunting outside, Engine 16 on Ferry Street and Ladder 9 on Elm Street. Augusto worked for 10 years in Engine as the firefighter who was determined to become captain while Brooks worked with Ladder 9. Port Newark Firefighters Killed in cargo ship fire
On Friday, the funeral details for Wayne Brooks Jr. and Augusto Acabou were announced with plans to lay them to rest scheduled for the next week at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart located on Ridge Street in Newark. Arrangements for Wayne Brooks Jr. have been planned on July 13 and July 14. The viewing will take place on July 13 from 4 pm to 8 pm and the funeral ceremony is on July 14 at 10 am. While the plans for Augusto Acabou are scheduled to take place on July 12 and July 13. First, the viewing ceremony take place on July 12 from 4 pm to 8 pm and the next day the funeral will take place at 10 am.
